Scott M. Snow, FSA
President of S. M. Snow & Associates
Scott M. Snow is the President of S. M. Snow & Associates and a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries. He's been heavily involved with employer-sponsored health plans for nearly fifty years and is one of the foremost experts in the industry.
Mr. Snow began his career in 1976 and was employed by various health insurance companies until 1989. His responsibilities included maximizing the effectiveness of the underwriting and pricing functions, developing a wide variety of rating factors and innovative pricing techniques, setting premiums for large employer groups, analyzing and optimizing product performance, achieving profitability targets, and making presentations to senior management.
In 1989, Mr. Snow founded S. M. Snow & Associates which started out as an actuarial consulting firm that provided consulting services to health insurance companies and self-funded employers. In 1995, he completely changed the company's direction after recognizing that an extremely important industry-wide need wasn't being met.
Throughout the 1980s and the early 1990s, Mr. Snow attended a wide variety of conferences and seminars. Some of these events were intended for actuaries and underwriters, while others were intended for brokers and employee benefits managers who oversaw their company's employee health plan. After LEARNING VIRTUALLY NOTHING AT THESE EVENTS that was beneficial to him, he came to the inescapable conclusion that the industry was in dire need of seminars and on-site training programs where attendees would actually learn a great deal of valuable information that would greatly benefit them and their company. Attending a conference or a seminar is a complete waste of time and money if an attendee doesn't learn anything of value! So, in 1995, his company discontinued its consulting services and starting devoting 100% of its time to designing and conducting THE MOST COMPREHENSIVE AND WORTHWHILE SEMINARS (AND ON-SITE TRAINING PROGRAMS) IN THE INDUSTRY. The company started off by offering a wide variety of comprehensive training seminars for group health insurance actuaries and underwriters that focused on the underwriting and pricing of employer-sponsored health plans.
In 2001, the company further expanded its seminar operations to include offering comprehensive training seminars for brokers, consultants, sales professionals, and employee benefits managers that focused on highly effective strategies to reduce and control an employer's health plan costs. [Health insurance company personnel (i.e., actuaries and underwriters) also benefitted greatly by attending these seminars.]
Mr. Snow is the sole presenter at our seminars and on-site training programs. He's an extremely effective communicator and presents complicated subject matter in a clear, concise, and understandable manner. Mr. Snow prides himself on his ability to "think outside the box" which enables him to develop highly effective (but practical) strategies that effectively solve complex problems. To date, he's conducted over 200 seminars and nearly 100 on-site training programs and has trained nearly thirteen thousand insurance professionals (i.e., brokers, consultants, employee benefits managers that oversee their company's employee health plan, as well as health insurance company underwriters, actuaries, and sales personnel.). The enormous success that we've enjoyed over the years is due to the unsurpassed quality of our seminars and on-site training programs.
